Nigeria's 2026 Outlook: Growth Projections Hit Decadal Highs

Today, January 18, 2026, Nigeria is seeing a wave of optimistic economic reports that suggest the country is "turning the corner" toward sustained growth.

ABUJA — The Nigerian economy has entered 2026 on a high note, with both the World Bank and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) upgrading the nation's growth forecasts. According to the latest Global Economic Prospects report, Nigeria is projected to grow by 4.4% in 2026, its fastest pace in over a decade.

The NESG went even further during their 156th National Economic Council meeting, forecasting a potential GDP growth of 5.5%. Experts attribute this resilience to a stabilizing Naira, increased oil production reaching 1.71 million barrels per day, and a booming non-oil sector which now accounts for roughly 96% of the country’s GDP.
