Super Eagles soar to the AFCON semi finals
🦅 FLY EAGLES FLY! Nigeria Smashes Algeria to Book AFCON Semifinal Spot
MARRAKESH, MOROCCO — The Super Eagles have soared into the semifinals of the 2025/2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a clinical 2–0 victory over the Desert Foxes of Algeria on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
In a high-stakes quarterfinal clash at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, Nigeria’s "Golden Generation" proved too powerful for the Algerians, continuing their dominant run in the tournament.
The Match Highlights
After a tense, goalless first half where Nigeria dictated the tempo, the breakthrough came just two minutes after the restart.
47th Minute: Victor Osimhen ignited the Nigerian fans, rising highest to meet a precision cross from Bruno Onyemaechi and powering a header past Luca Zidane.
57th Minute: The lead was doubled when Osimhen turned provider. The reigning African Player of the Year unselfishly squared the ball to Akor Adams, who skipped past the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net.
Algeria struggled to find a response, failing to register a single shot on target until the 80th minute, as Nigeria’s defense—led by stand-in captain Wilfred Ndidiremained impenetrable.
Road to the Final: The Host Showdown
Nigeria now heads to Rabat for what many are calling the "Final before the Final." The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the tournament hosts, Morocco, in the semifinal on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
The Atlas Lions booked their spot earlier by defeating Cameroon 2–0. With a hostile home crowd expected in Rabat, the Super Eagles will need every bit of the momentum that has seen them score 14 goals so far in the competition.
Let’s go eagles!
